The Canyon can be accessed by various trails, some within the National Park, others inside the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness. There are several commercial outfitters offering one to three day float trips through the Gorge section of the Canyon, encompassing 14 miles of outstanding fishing and unparalleled scenery. Treat it with respect! The Black Canyon is the place to bring your best “leave no trace” ethic. If you pack it in you pack it out and that includes your poo.

Both were okay figs, mildly sweet with a slight hint of a berry flavor -the LSU Purple somewhat stronger than the Latarulla. They were better than my unknown that is splitting with all the rains, but not particularly special.

This is our experience at the Black Canyon and my own recommendation guide to it. Camping We found these campsites at Black Canyon to be much nicer than what we’ve experienced in other national parks.. They are closer to primitive sites (30 amp hookups only available at some spots, vault toilets), and we really enjoyed that they were a little more spaced out, had trees and greenery around them, were frequented by deer and other critters, and were just generally less crowded.

Leave your camp site more natural than you found it. We only have one Black Canyon, let’s keep it nice. The canyon itself is about 48 miles long, 13 of which are in the National Park, and some 2700 feet at its deepest. The river Gunnison has cut through the marbled slate grey walls.
